SIERRA NEVADA CLASSIC
PLAYERS
Colt .45s
Jim "2-4-2" McHugh captains his Colt .45s with a swagger that only a 15 year veteran walks with. A true man of leisure in the off season, Jim has plenty of time on the deck of his yacht (aptly named the "S.S. Smooth Jazz") to re-live his 3 championships and his 2013 MVP award.
Steve "Wheels" Hutson has seen a great deal of success in a short amount of time in his SNC tenure. In his six years, Wheels has accumulated a Rookie of the Year Award, an MVP trophy and two SNC Championships proving that speed is definitely not a factor in winning this tournament.
This grizzled vet has been going "All World" on SNC players for 15 years. In 2007, he led his team to the Promised Land and grabbed an MVP trophy in what would be the first and only win for the Full House franchise in the pre-draft era.
After re-perfecting his Renaldo Nehemiah hurdle form, he joined the Colt .45s in 2014 where he has helped his underdog team to a ride on a Nevada Day Parade float as well as two championship trophies.
After years of riding as a jockey at Del Mar Race Track, this guy settled into the SNC with The Undertakers in 2002 and hasn't looked back. Although The Undertakers didn't have much success in their 7 year existence, Shortstack found a new home with the Colt .45s in 2009 and he has been buggy whipping his opponents ever since.
This two time champ re-affirms the old adage--"Just because you might be a little short in the stack, it doesn't mean you have to be short with your hack."
Fistful of $$$$
Fistful of $$$$ Captain Billy “Dot” Borda is only one of two original SNC members to never miss a Classic, which means he has been there on tourney day 19 years and counting. Still competing at his high school weight, he has notched two SNC Titles and a 2003 MVP in the old era and is desperate to grab some more hardware in the new era.
Mark “Ziggy” Manning made his SNC debut in SNC 6 as a last minute fill-in for Rich Hutson of the Colt .45s and based on his spectacular performance was selected to captain the expansion team The Undertakers in SNC 7. Now a 14 year veteran, Ziggy has established himself as a formidable member of Fistful of $$$$ where he plans to capture his first SNC Title.
David “The Stormin’ X-Mormon” Dodson has graced the Classic with his presence on his one and only team, Fistful Of $$$$, for 17 years. He also holds two SNC titles and as one of the better athletes in the tourney had no problem switching from his home run making wiffle ball bat to his golf ball crushing driver.
Scott “The Leprechaun” Schellin jigged his way into the Classic in SNC 7 as a member of the Undertakers and immediately showed what he was made of as he shattered his ankle in basketball but refused to stay down as he limped his way to a Most Inspirational award. Like Ziggy, Leprechaun is ready to ride his first rainbow to Title Town.
Powell's Brickyard
Casanova, a gifted athlete, entered the mix in SNC 5 as an instant threat in all events and he didn't disappoint. He was voted Rookie of the Year in a tight field that year and he went on to collect two Championships and an MVP trophy along the way.
His dominance on the Wiffleball mound was unreal and he has since mastered the new post-draft events and has recently been named Captain of his team proving that he is a lover AND a fighter.
Sean entered the Classic in SNC 8 with The Penetrators and won a Championship 5 years later during the last pre-draft tourney. He was a huge presence on the basketball court during his tenure with The Penetrators, but he has transitioned nicely into the new era as part of Powell's Brickyard.
He has always been consistent and his lifetime bowling average of 131 along with his stellar horseshoe play makes this guy a key component of PB's success.
SNC 7 was a good year for Sleepy. Drafted by Triple Play in 2002, he won honors for Rookie of the Year and quickly rose to the top of the heap in all events. He helped Triple Play win a Championship in 2006 and he has been a huge help to Powell's Brickyard since their start in SNC 14.
A huge fan of soup and sleeping, you would think this guy is a senior citizen, but he still has the legs of a 18 year old and he is seemingly getting better with age.
The only things that the SNC Commission knows about this rookie are that he has two uncles in the tournament and that he is the youngest participant to take the field. Time will tell.
Full House
Skeets was drafted in the very early days of the 2nd SNC by Stage Fright and he had to be very patient to find success. After 4 years with Stage Fright, Kris was drafted by the expansion team, Full House, where he still remains captain to this day. In 2007, after a decade of service, Skeets finally won it all and has since added another 2 titles and an MVP award for SNC 15
This guy is a beast in all sports and he does it all in the most stylish outfits along the way. Whether it's a cowboy hat and enormous belt buckle or neon-orange golf pants, this guy does not disappoint.
This vet has been packing handfulls of sand all over the SNC since joining the Classic in 1999 as part of the new expansion team, From The Brickyard. Sadly, he did not have any success with FTB, but in 2009 he led his new team, Full House, to the SNC 14 Championship and collected an MVP trophy along the way.
He again helped his team repeat with a Championship in SNC 15 and Packsand looks for more hardware for his mantle in SNC 20 and beyond.
Bor's tenure began in 2001 when he was drafted into Triple Play. Only 5 short years later, he and his team shocked the world by taking home the SNC 10 trophy and he has since won two more titles with his current team.
A true triple threat, Bor is deadly in Golf, very good in Horseshoes and very solid in Bowling where his lifetime average is 141. You can be sure that this wild animal will be snortin' around in the dirt finding more titles in the future.
The Apostle also joined the SNC with From The Brickyard in 1999 with teammate Paul Kinne and was one of the best basketball players in the early years. The duo of Ron Powell and Carlos Mendeguia were unstoppable on the hardwood and in 9 years, they won the basketball tourney 8 times and came in 2nd place 1 time.
The Apostle was then drafted by Full House where he was part of back-to-back Championships in SNC 14 and SNC 15 but he is ready and willing to take the trophy back to his church.
Let It Ride
The word "drought" doesn't even begin to explain the lack of championships since thiis OC (Original Champion) took a trophy home in SNC 1. The JB has captained a number of teams and teammates through some rough seas over the years only to find the rocky shores of 2nd, 3rd and worse.
His newest team looked good in SNC 19 and going forward, he will be looking for the lighthouse to guide his ship into the safe harbor of Titletown.
This rookie showed up big time in SNC 19 proving to be a great addition on and off the field. Matlock's calm demeanor and wide array of skills were vaulable in all three events and he even took home a set of custom dominoes in the SNC Chairity event showing that this guy was what it takes to win a Championship--mentally and physically.
Look for this newest addition to the SNC to be holding many trophys, very soon.
The Serb, who entered the SNC with The Colt .45s in SNC 10, has been battling for his first taste of a Championship for a decade and he is hoping that SNC 20 will be the year.
His knowledge of the local native spirits and ways have made him an invaluable resource on the golf course and it's rare to find this guy without a cheshire cat-like smile on his face throughout the weekend.
Chilinch has been a pillar of the SNC community dating back to his first year in SNC 5. He launched onto the scene as Jim "The Bronx Bomber" Tierney onto the new expansion team, the Colt .45s, where he flourished and won a title and an MVP trophy 4 years later.
At the 2008 SNC draft, he was selected in the first round to join Let It Ride where he has been dominating in every sport he particpates in. A three sport letterman in High School, this guy can do it all and he was instrumental in setting an SNC golf record low score of 60 in SNC 19.
In the offseason, he retires to his band of sheep in the Eastern Sierras and focuses on the next SNC.
The Penetrators
Paw started his run in the SNC in 2001 as Captain of the newly added expansion team, Triple Play. He didn't have to wait long to kiss the trophy as his MVP performance in 2006 led his team to the first franchise victory for Triple play. Since joining the Penetrators in 2009, Berkich has been instrumental in their play, helping his team win 2 more championships since the draft.
Paw is never at a loss for words, but the problem is that you just can't understand what he is mumbling.
COMING SOON!
The Flame came into the SNC in 2006 when he joined Full House for SNC 11. It only took him two years to win the big one as he was instrumental in Full House's first ever franchise win in 2007. Drafted by The Penetrators at SNC 14, he has aleady won the title 2 more times, collecting an MVP award in 2011.
The Flame is known for his unreal bowling ability and his near nickname change from "The Flame" to "The White Russian" after his rookie crawl into the league.
Bacon, a relative new-comer to the league, joined The Penetrators in 2012 for SNC 17 and made it look easy as he took home the trophy in his very first year.
Time will tell for the new guy, but with his abilities in horeshoes and his strong team, this guy might have to make a shed on his property to hold all of his trophys from the SNC. Hopefully the shed will be a little better constructed than the lean-to that housed the now famous "skinniest pigs in America."
The Point Shavers
A true "OG" in many senses of the word, Spidey is one of the original members of the SNC and he has never missed a year. Ever. He was part of an incredible run through 1999 when The Point Shavers won an unprecedented 4 titles in a row. He has won 5 overall and has collected 2 MVP trophys while doing it.
This guy personifies the spirit of the SNC and he will always be Point Shaver for life.
Goose came flying into the SNC way back in 1999 when he joined Let It Ride and he made his new team an instant threat to win it every year. After years of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, a chip-tella, a shattered shoulder from a motorcyle accident and countless injuries that he never spoke of, he won the Most Inspirational award in 2008 and is now back to full strength and ready to win his first trophy with The Point Shavers.
This guy has many talents inside and outside of the SNC, but in Dayton, NV in 2001, he was awarded the "Hay-Bucker of The Year" award for throwing 130-pound bales around like they were paper airplanes.
SNC 13 was the year that Special K brought his talents to The Point Shavers and he must have made a good impression because team owners made sure to keep him around for good when they drafted him in 2009 to ensure that he would always be a Point Shaver. He hasn't kissed the trophy yet, but it's only a matter of time.
He hasn't won many personal awards in the SNC, but in 2010 he was voted most likely to grow a fancy moustache overnight.
The Colonel joined the SNC family in 2014 as part of The Point Shavers and he quickly made friends on his new team when his presence on the golf course led The Point Shavers to their first ever points in Golf with a very impressive 2nd place on a crowded leader board.
He also surprised many of the SNC members when he didn't throw up at lunch.
stage Fright
The Yeti roared his way into the SNC way back in 1997 when he was tasked with the job of Captaining the new expansion team, Stage Fright. His team has had some shaky performances and not a ton of success, but he did win the Most Inspirational award in 2004 for having to be carried from the Friday night seedings onto the bus.
Still looking for his first championship, the Yeti is hungry and has been seen wandering the hills at night growling something about "trophy meat."
COMING SOON!
Leroy joined the SNC and Stage Fright in 2006 and he made the transition very easily with strong play in all sports, especially hoops. He stayed with Stage Fright all through the early years and then was drafted to Stage Fright again in 2009, making him a part of the franchise for life. He has yet to win a championship in his 14-year reign, but he will help his team reach the promised land sooner rather than later.
He was awarded with a Most Inspirational award in 2003 after returning from a one-year hiatus from a scary stroke incident and he has been a strong competitior ever since.

SNC Referees and Umpires
John "Brute" Borda
--11 year Veteran Official
John Borda was the first SNC Official starting back at SNC 1. From his first strike call in wiffle ball in 1996 to his last out call in 2006, The Brute was never one to back down to even the most tenured of SNC veterab athletes and was known for the "let 'em bleed" style of officiating in the gym. His strike zone was said to be pitcher friendly, but for the most part, his 11 years behind the plate were without major incidents. After retiring from his officiating duties in 2006, Borda moved to the SNC Hall of Fame where he was only one of two members.
Rick "The Count" Oxoby
--7 Year Veteran Official
With the growth of the tournament, the SNC signed Rick "The Count" Oxoby in 2000 and he officiated his first game in that year during SNC 5. Oxoby had a stellar rookie season and continued to get better every year until his retirement in 2006. For seven years The Count dawned the zebra suit and besides a few controversial calls in the gym (i.e., player control/offensive fouls) he related well with the SNC athletes and called them as he saw them.
Ted
"The Sheep Whisperer" Borda
--2 Year Veteran Official
Although his career lasted only 2 seasons, Ted Borda worked the gym and wiffle ball field like a seasoned veteran. He will forever be known for his "Steeerike!" call and his ability to get down the line like a gazelle to make the call at first. With the removal of referee and official positions starting in SNC 14 to begin the new era, Borda was given a golden parachute from the SNC and spends his days talking with sheep on the open range.
Bruce
"The Sheriff"
Barnes
--1 Year Veteran Official
Bruce Barnes signed a one year contract with the Classic to finish out the old era during SNC 13. He refereed and officated his rookie season like he had been there for years. Not too many SNC athletes were going to question this guy's calls in the gym. His officiating behind the plate was always in control and he stood behind his decisions. He may also be remembered for one of the best quotes by an official in SNC, "That last call I might have missed and it should have been a strike, so you better swing at the next one because it will be called a strike no matter where it is."
Mike
"The Silent Assassin"
Borda
--1 Year Veteran Official
With an untimely Achilles tendon injury in 2007, Mike Borda was placed on injured reserve by the Point Shavers and moved into officiating duties for SNC 12. His one year stint was near perfect in both basketball and wiffle ball probably due to the fact that no one would ever question the league's founder. Borda was happy when the duties were over and he was glad to get back into action in the SNC competition.
Paul "Packsand" Kinne
--Spot Duty
During SNC 5, Paul Kinne stepped in for spot duty behind the plate in wiffle ball at Governor's Field when The Count had to leave early with another obligation. Kinne worked his magic calling balls and strikes and finished the morning without incident. The only problem for him was the constant temptation to pack some sand every time the catcher got into position.
Johnny "The JB" Borda
--Spot Duty
During SNC 3 and SNC 4, Johnny Borda helped out The Brute with officiating behind the plate in wiffle ball at Carson Jr. High School. Borda's duties were without incident in both years. He did, however, receive fines on both occasions on the wiffleball field for his infamous streak with pants at his ankles running across the field
Inactive Media Personel
Dustin "Eagle Eye" Page
--3 year video camera veteran
During his three years of documenting the SNC, Dustin got deep into the trenches to capture a real sense of what goes on during the three day tournament. ESPN took notice and quickly hired Dustin to shoot and produce a number of programs for the sports station including a award winning "30 for 30: Alcohol and Sports, Do They Go Together?"
