HALL OF FAME

Mike "The Silent Assassin" Borda

The Commission had a very easy decision on this Hall Of Fame candidate. Not only did The Silent Assassin create what has now grown into today's version of the Sierra Nevada Classic, but he also had a great deal of success along the way.  While Captain of the Point Shavers, he racked up an unprecedented 4 MVP awards and 5 Tournament Championships in his 17 years of competition including a staggering 4-peat from 1999-2002.  Even more amazing, he did all of this while running the actual tournament and all that goes along with organizing a 3-day event of this magnitude.

The Silent assassin was a true class act that we all hope our own kids will grow to emulate.  A special thanks to Mike Borda for making this all possible.

Ron "Silk" Powell

Silk started his 14 year SNC legend with a bang in 1999 as he led his team to the first of many wins in Basketball while collecting a Rookie of the Year award. The next 10 years of SNC basketball play were dominated by Ron and his team, From The Brickyard, and they were always the team that nobody wanted to see in their bracket on seeding day.

Ron brought an abundance of positive energy and zest for life to the tournament and his loud laugh still echos through the halls of the Nevada State Capital building.  He also holds an SNC record that will never be broken--most career dunks.

Roger "The Hammer" Borda

The Hammer, inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2008, was no stranger to success during his tour of duty.  As an integral part of the Point Shavers juggernaut, Roger won 5 Championships during his 12 years of participation.  Not very well known for his soft touch around the hoop, The Hammer played more of a mental combat with his competitors as they would never know when Roger would come out of the woodwork for a little full nelson or double chicken wing.

The Hammer was also known for this oft-repeated bit of praise that would share with SNC athletes:

"I like you.  You know why?  Because you rarely wear underwear and when you do, it's something exotic."

John "The Brute" Borda

From his first "strike" call at SNC 1 to his final "out" call at SNC 11, The Brute was never one to back down to even the most seasoned SNC athletes.  He was known for his let 'em play and let 'em bleed style of officiating in the gym and for his pitcher friendly strike zone on the diamond.

His officiating duties went mainly without incident probably due to the fact that he issued cash based fines for athletes who used foul language while participating in the events he was in charge of.  To this day, the Commission has still be unable to account for the more than $1,300 in cash that was siezed in SNC tournaments.

The Brute will still show up from time to time to keep people on their toes.  His last sighting was at lunch during SNC 14 where he showed up to JT's early and ordered steaks for everyone whether they wanted them or not.
